The Yaqui were originally a northern Mexican tribe who were much influenced by Spanish settlers. They had very early access to metal good and guns, the warriors often being seen with Spanish or Mexican swords and knives. Photographs of the Yaqui in the 19th century show them dressed almost entirely in Mexican-style cotton clothing and sombreros, the men carrying cartridge belts over one shoulder and up-to-date firearms.
The use of bows, lances and other native weapons seems to have ended very early among this tribe.
