first he was going to stand up to Achilles, then he got scared and started running aroung the city (Troy).
Athena tricked him, so he went to face Achilles.
he then begged Achilles to let his people have his (Hector's) body if he died.

so then they fought, but it was pretty short, Achilles pretty much just killed him.

Patroclus was Achilles cousin and was killed in the Trojan War by Hector. He was killed while wearing Achilles armour.
Athena aided in killing Hector, all the gods allowed Hector to be killed, but Achilles is the one who ultimately slaughtered the young warrior.

He caught up to Hector even with Apollo's help and once he killed Hector, Achilles attached him by his achilles heel and dragged him around. This is ironic because later Paris shoots Achilles in the Achilles heel and he is vulnerable there by not being dumped into the river styx.
Achilles killed Hector mainly to avenge the death of his friend, Patrokolos. Also, it made sense for him to kill Hector because they both were the best fighters on their respective sides. If Achilles killed Hector, he would gain a lot of honor.
