Hippies showed that you did not have to conform to social norms, and could have different opinions than the majority, and could find new ways to live. While the hippie movement no longer exists, there is a certain legacy of nonconformity which still does.
Hippies were active protesters. They were against war and burned their draft cards or moved to Canada to avoid war. they dressed funky and did drugs. they listened to protesting music. They loved life.
They wanted peace for all the world and love for all mankind. This goes along with organic growing as well.
