England in the 1800s were positively Victorian. Victoria was the the Queen at that time. There was no electricity yet. Jack the Ripper was killing working women in the White Chapel district in 1888.So, at a guess, Dangerous.

In the 1800's:

In the cities, children as young as 6 years old might work in a mill or factory, make deliveries for a storekeeper, be an apprentice, or be a servant. Children in rural areas worked on the farm. Boys chopped firewood, cared for the animals, hauled water, worked in the fields or orchards, and hunted and trapped. Girls cooked, milked cows or goats, churned butter, collected eggs, cleaned, did laundry, sewed clothing for the family, and helped care for younger siblings and elderly family members.

Children who were allowed to go to school went to school in a one room school house with one teacher for all the students. Lunch was brought from home in a tin pail. Students walked to school, even when school was 2 or 3 miles away.

All day Sunday was spent at church or reading/studying The Bible at home.

Families had lots of children, but many of them died young because of all the diseases such as typhoid, scarlet fever, or measles.

Women were controlled by the men in their lives. A woman's sole purpose in life was to find a husband and have children. Women could not own property. Women were not allowed access to education and were not allowed to attend universities.

Crime began to rise when men could not find sufficient work to support their families.

Native Americans were being forced from their homelands and eventually moved onto reservations.

The slave trade in Africa grew and made some African tribal leaders rich and powerful.
