It may seem like it should be some kind of warning, but it was cardiovascular disease, just the same as it is today. The one that comes right behind it is also the same, cancer. I hope we don't have to wait another 50 years to realize that more needs to be done. And, if we consider them lifestyle diseases, on account that the US has a higher instance of both than other countries, that maybe that's why it's so hard to change. It's not medication and/or surgery that will change this but things people are less likely to want to change, like diet and exercise. That should help with the first, and a cleaner environment with fewer harmful chemicals would likely help the second.
