Well the ss californian was quite near but they didnt help the titanic, there was also another ship, Sampson which was two to five miles away. It ignored the titanic because it had a lot of seals on board that they had illegally been hunting.

Jack Phillips, the wireless operator on Titanic, was exhausted from transmitting passengers' personal messages and snapped on Cyril Evans, on the Californian, who was sending word of the ice field ahead. The insulted Evans shut off the Marconi Room for the night and went to bed.
