I carried my curds to the Mathura fair…

How softly the heifers were lowing…

I wanted to cry, "Who will buy

The curds that is white as the clouds in the sky

When the breezes of Shravan are blowing?"

But my heart was so full of your beauty, Beloved,

They laughed as I cried without knowing:

The Quest is about the incomparable love of Radha and Krishna. In the poem

Radha is searching for her beloved Krishna. Lord Krishna is the symbol of

imperishable love who can provide the shelter of love to everyone. Radha has given

the highest rank among the lovers of Krishna. It is not easy to define whether the

pasion she fels towards Krishna is love or devotion. Acording to the beliefs, the

zenith of devotion is love. Radha searches her beloved Krishna. She asks the wind

about him. But she canot find him. Krishna has the habit of resting in the forest at

the non time. She searches for him in the forest o, but fails to find him out. At he

late evening she enquires the grey coloured tide about the dweling place of her dear

Flute player. The waters, the wind and the wods do not give any answer to her

questions. None of them know anything about him. She caries her crying face in her

arms. She keps weping- where her Ghanashyam has gone.

Her search shows the pasion in the heart of Radha towards Krishna. In the love for

him, she becomes a sily girl who always makes complaints to her lover. Her heart is

sudenly awakened like a boat which shok from top to botom by his hiden

laughter. He mocks her with the usual tricks of Krishna and honey bubled in the

chalice of her heart. She always thinks like every other girl and tries to find out some

reasons to quarel with him. Even then she realizes that al the sily thoughts raised in

her heart are only because of the love hiden in her.

Then he asks her why she is searching for him in the wind, wave and the flowering

valey. He says that he belongs to her. She can lok into the miror of her heart o se

him.

The Quest is about he love and devotion of Radha towards Lord Krishna. The image

of Radha and Krishna is one of the most celebrated one in Indian mythology. We can

se the concept of 'Prakrit' and 'Purusha' in the poem. Here Krishna stands for the

concept of Purusha and Radha for Prakrit and this union is considered as the basics of

life upon the earth. She uses the image of divine love to portray her concept of love.

Hence the love in the poem becomes eternal. She narates the poem acording to the

traditonal concept of love in India. The poem is the transfer of personal love to theSchol of Distance Education

universal love. She brings onenes of the hearts of the idol and the devote. She

believes in the love before which everyone is compeled to surender.

In The Quest, the nightingale of India sings about love which is imperishable. She

sings about the love of Radha and Krishna, the iconic couple of Indian Myths. She

seks him al over but fails to find him out. As in every love, she finds that her lover

is always playing with her, but fails to acept the fact. She shares her complaints to

herself. But at the same time she enjoys his teasing. In the end she realizes the fact

that he resides in her mind and it is her fault that she could not identify the platonic

love hiden in the mind of Krishna towards every woman who adores him. The love

described in this poem is platonic in nature which refers to the union of the minds

rather than the union of the bodies.

The theme of the poem 'Song of Radha, the Milkmaid' is that true love is deep and can never be controlled. The world becomes heaven for the lover and he/she is never bothered by the people around him/her. In the poem, we find Radha in deep love for Krishna. She cries his name again and again. The people around her laugh at her and even get angry. However she does not think of them. Instead she keeps praying for her beloved Krishna.

  • 'Song of Radha the Milkmaid' is a very beautiful part of poetry. We can see in the poem that Radha is so lost in Krishnan's love. She doesn't care about those people who are making fun of her or getting angry with her behaviour. The poetess want to see us the real and pure side of love. Radha have a feeling over which she obviously has no control. The real lover never think about the world. This poem captures the playful filtration of Radha and Krishna. The poetess use familiar theme in this poem. The connection of soul between the Radha and Krishna is so pure.

Critical appreciation of the poem if youcall me by sarojini naidu?

Sarojini Naidu's treatment of love is excellent. Her concept of love is true and sublime. It is spiritual. For example, Song of Radha, the Milkmaid is a folk-song based on Radha's love for her lover Govinda. Radha is a milkmaid. She remains lost in the thought of Govinda. Her mind is over-filled with the name of Govinda. Govinda is a cowboy and flute player. She visits the Mathura tide to take water from the Yamuna. She carries pots there. She is delighted to see the sailors rowing the boat joyfully. Her friends are dancing and they ask her to join them to dance and sing wearing saffron garments in order to welcome the spring. Friends ask her to come with them and pluck the new buds that were blowing. But, Radha does not take interest in such activities for her heart is filled with the music of Govinda's flute. Her friends laugh at her when she shouts unknowingly 'Govinda'! 'Govinda'! 'Govinda'! Govinda'! She takes delight in seeing the river flowing happily. It proves her love for Govinda is true and sublime. It is spiritual.
