the reason of the sinking of the mv derbyshire was that when the typhoon hit the ship the waves went crashing over the bow which made the hatch cover and ventilator tops to break loose from the ship leading to water to gush into the ship which made the ship more slugish and the waves still crashed onto the bow further along the ship making the hatch covers that have the cargo in it vunrable, the waves got higher and went over the hatch covers making them cave inward this dominoed from the bow then the second hatch cover imploded then the third and fourth and fifth and sixth then the forward cargo hold was driven inwards by the pressure on the sea which severley weakend the ships hull then the second cargo hold imploded casing the double bottom and keel to crack then the third cargo hold got driven inward toppling the two cranes on the ship then the fourth cargo hold including the engine room imploded splitting the keel and tearing out the double bottom splitting the ship into four peices and leading to the final hatch cover to implode leading to the funnel and mast to toppel over and the pilot house being ripped away from its mountings and eventually the derbyshire sank to the bottom.
