Vlad the impaler, who famously served as the inspiration for Count Dracula in Bram Stoker's novel, was assassinated shortly after declaring his third reign. While the exact cause or location of his death remain unknown, he is most widely believed to have died in December of 1476, somewhere between Bucharest and Giurgiu.
