In "The Outsiders," Ponyboy often exhibits denial about the realities of his situation. He struggles to accept the harshness of his life as a Greaser and frequently insists that things aren't as bad as they seem. For example, he downplays the violence between the Greasers and the Socs, believing that they can coexist peacefully. His denial is further revealed when he clings to the hope that his brothers will always be there for him, despite the mounting pressures and dangers they face.
To do something his life instead of being a greaser .
I think that Darry likes Ponyboy in some ways. He kinda thinks that Ponyboy is a good kid.
When Ponyboy comes home late from sleeping in the lot after the movie with Johnny Darry hits Ponyboy in the face. Then Ponyboy runs away. Also, they always fight about how Ponyboy doesn't use his head. One time Sodapop gets affected by their fighting and runs away!
Oh, dude, after the fire, Darry tells Ponyboy that he's a "hood," which is like slang for a troublemaker or a delinquent. Darry is just looking out for Ponyboy, like a big brother should, trying to keep him on the straight and narrow. So yeah, basically, Darry's just dropping some truth bombs on Ponyboy to keep him in line.
Ponyboy has alot of foils in the book but i think the most noticable one is Ponyboy and Darry. They have both different personalities and Darry always pushes Ponyboy, especially in school. These are just a few ones, I hope you can think of some more. -R.G.R

He is usually being a good student at school, and is usually being a greaser at home with some of his other friends in his gang, causing trouble here, and there.
