Seeds from palnts that have lain dormant for many years would sprout and the desert would quickly turn green. If the rain continued over a lengthy period the entire ecosystem of the desert would change.

Thunderstorms during the rainy season can drop a large amount of water in a very short time. This frequently causes flash flooding to occur. If a tropical storm comes ashore over a desert it can also cause heavy rains to fall.
