The popeye theme was the theme song of the Cartoon, in movie and later TV form which dates from the thirties. Popeye has always been a part of the King Feature Syndicate, which also spawned Felix The Cat. The song was a part of the sound track, at some time around l96l some rock and roll group did have a modified form of the song called Popeye the Hitch-hiker- must have run in tandem with some sort of choreographed stage act- possibly Chubby Checker, and this Did hit no.l on the charts for a very short time- a novelty song-of which there were many at the time and an up-beat happy one at that -unlike ( Laurie) , for example.
