When Edward talks to Jacob and says 'I agree you can give Bella things I cannot give her' what did Edward mean by saying this what could Jacob possibly give Bella that Edward cannot?

Along with all the other responses, at the moment, he is talking about the fact that Bella is about to lose her toes in the freezing cold, and he cannot help warm her up. One thing that Edward can not give Bella, is the power to bear a child healthily. ~ He can live with her, and grow if he wants to. He cannot hurt her and loves her too. Jacob can stop being a wolf and continue aging if he doesn't phase for a while, then he can grow up with Bella. Edward can't give Bella:
sex (self control)
he can't keep her warm
he is a stone...not comfy
grow old with her
give her all her human experiences

No, Edward never meant anything he said outside of Bella's house when they were saying goodbye in the woods. He was only trying to protect her by leaving so she could have a normal human life and he knew the only way he could do it was by lying. So, no he never meant it.The only things he did mean were when he said not to be "reckless or stupid".

Edward means that Jacob can give Bella a normal human life, a normal human marriage, a normal human family and a normal human death. Edward reckons that by turning Bella into a vampire, it will get rid of her soul and she'll live immortally forever with Edward, which is what she wants. Although to a certain extent, this isn't what Edward wants for Bella, even though he wants to stay with her forever, no matter how old she gets.
