The Price is Right, best known as the longest-running game show in history, is a game show in which contestants must guess the price of a specific item in order to gain that item and more money.

Its catchphrase is Rich Fields (the announcer, who says a lot more than other announcers) saying "Come on down!" after naming a random audience member to join the "Contestants' Row" (e.g. if the contestant's name is John Smith, Rich would say, "John Smith, come on down!"). At the contestants' row, the host (currently Drew Carey; preceded by Bob Barker) would ask Rich to introduce an item, usually worth $500 to $5,000 but never higher than $9,999 and rarely lower than $250. The four contestants in Contestants Row must try to guess the price of the item without going over. If they go over, even by $1, it does not count. The actual retail price is announced by Drew Carey, and the contestant closest to the price will receive the item go up to play a pricing game. A buzzer will sound if all 4 contestants overbid, and they will have to bid lower than the lowest price. A bell will sound if a contestant guesses the retail price 'on the nose'. That contestant will earn a $500 bonus in this occurence. A strategy often employed by contestants would be to bid $1 higher than another's price, making that person's bid useless, as they would have to have a perfect bid in order to win. If the last contestant to guess the price thinks that all 3 contestants overbid, he/she can bid $1 or a low amount (e.g $30, $90, although that is rare). A person has bid $1 below somebody's price instead of $1 over. In that case, Bob asked that contestant to 'sit down', as the bell did not ring. Any contestant that doesn't make it will stay there, and after the pricing game is played, another contestant will be called to fill that contestant's place. This process is known as One Bid.

Onstage, Rich will introduce an item and/or a dollar value, and Drew will take over by explaining how to play one of over 100 pricing games. An audience favorite is Lucky Seven, in which the contestant is given $7. A car is introduced, and the contestant must guess the price of the car, digit-by-digit. For each digit the contestant is away from the price, he/she must give the host that many dollars. (e.g if a contestant guesses that the first digit of the car is 3, but it turned out to be a 2, the contestant must give the host $1.) When the last digit is guessed, the contestant will count up his/her money (out of the $7 he/she originally had). Drew states that the car will be sold at a special rate of $1, and if he/she has that $1 left, they can buy the car. One of the audience's favorites is Plinko, in which the contestant has 1 Plinko Chip to use on a Plinko board with 9 spaces (from left to right - $100, $500, $1,000, $0, $10,000, $0, $1,000, $500, $100) 4 small items are introduced, with an incorrect price below it. (the items always have a price between $10 and $99). The contestant must guess which digit is correct in the price. (e.g. a blender may have a wrong price of $59, and the contestant must guess whether the 5 is the first digit of the actual price or the 9 is the last digit of the actual price). If they guess correctly, they earn a Plinko Chip to use on the board. A potential $50,000 can be won.

After this is repeated 3 times, a Showcase Showdown is played among the 3 winners of One Bid. They must each spin a wheel that has 20 spaces with a dollar value, in intervals of $0.05 from $0.05 to $1.00. After the first spin, they can choose whether to spin again or stop. Whoever has the price closest to $1.00 wins and will advance to the Showcase later. After 3 more pricing games, this is done again among the 3 One Bid winners of those games. In an event of a tie, a spin-off is done. If a contestant spins $1.00 exactly, or as Drew Carey likes to call it, 'on the nose,' he/she gets $1,000 and has a chance to spin for $25,000 more. If he/she lands on a green space ($0.05 or $0.15), he/she will get $10,000. If they get the space with $1.00, he/she will get $25,000. No other space will get him/her money. The amount spun will not be won, although it would not make too much of a difference.

At the end of the 1-hour show, two Showcases with related items (e.g 2 TVs, 2 cars, new carpeting, etc. would be for a showcase related to a new marriage) are shown. The Showcase Showdown winner with the most winnings total has an option to 'pass' the first Showcase to the other contestant or keep it. The other contestant is shown their showcase. They will guess the price of their showcase, and after a commercial break, the actual retail price is revealed. Whoever is closest to the retail price wins their showcase. Double overbids result in no one winning the Showcase. If a contestant bids within $250 of the actual retail price, he/she wins both Showcases. $1 is sometimes bid if they think the other has overbid.
