During Sir Francis Drake's circumnavigation of the globe from 1577 to 1580, out of the original crew of about 150 men, only 58 returned home. While exact figures for deaths during the voyage vary, it is estimated that around 40 crew members died due to various causes, including battles, disease, and shipwrecks.
