Tobacco was so prosperous in that area, so the settlers saw great promise there. They began cultivating it and perfecting the cultivation so there was very little waste. Because of this, the settlers became very rich as they would sell the tobacco. This became the first American settlement. But what I am wondering is, who was the person who perfected the cultivation? -Marc ____ The person was the husband of Pocahontas(John Rolfe) he perfected the methods of raising and curing the weed and eliminated much of the bitter tang. -ariana
actually john rolfe introduced the American crop tobacco to the colony. This crop did save Jamestown. Also, they offered 50 acres of land to any man, woman, or child who could pay their way to Jamestown, which lead to a higher population. that is true but they where the first colony were everyone didnt die.
