A January 2001 newspaper article stated that the taping of the final installments of the series wrapped in December. When this last week of episodes air in August, Mr. Rogers and his Family Communications Inc. will have completed 33 seasons and almost 1,000 episodes of what is the longest-running children's program airing nationally.
During a recent interview in his office at WQED, in Oakland, Pa., Rogers said the timing is right. He's celebrating his 50th year in television.
Fred Rogers did not cancel his show on PBS Kids; rather, "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" concluded its original run in 2001 after more than three decades on air. Rogers decided to retire as part of a natural progression, having fulfilled his mission to educate and nurture children through television. The show's ending was a reflection of his desire to pass the torch while ensuring that the values it promoted would continue to influence future generations.

I have no idea ^_^=DFrom Snopes websight-Fred Rogers never served in the military, and he bore no tattoos on his arms (or any other part of his body). He wore long-sleeved shirts and sweaters on his show as a stylistic choice, in order to maintain an air of formality with youngsters. Although he was friendly with the children in his viewing audience and talked to them on their own level, he was most definitely an authority figure on a par with parents and teachers (he was Mister Rogers to them, after all, not "Fred"), and his choice of dress was intended to establish and foster that relationship.
