Just spilt the day into hours, for every one hour it would be 1/24 for every 2 hours it would be 2/24 etc. Say something like this: 2/24 - Watch tv 3/24 - Go out with friends etc. until the fractions eqaul 24/24 (Add up the first numbers, e.g. 2/24 + 3/24 = 5/24)

Unless it is an old tube type television or you plug the vent slots on the television by blocking them with an article of clothing or something else there is almost no chance it will catch fire if left on for 24 hours.
