No one knows when the witch is born in "The Wizard of Oz."
Specifically, no information on ages or dates is given in either the beloved 1939 film version or the original 1900 book edition of "The Wizard of Oz." Additionally, there is more than one witch in the story. But regardless of whether it is a question of four witches in the book and three in the film, the age or birth date of not one is revealed other than the description of the Wicked Witch of the West as being "old."
At the witch's castle in the book and at Dorothy's landing site in the film are the times when the witch first appears in "The Wizard of Oz."
Specifically, the Wicked Witch of the West does not show up until the last half of the original 1900 book edition. The Wizard has Dorothy Gale, her pet dog Toto and their three friends go killer her in her own home. In contrast, in the beloved 1939 film version, the witch lands in Munchkinland shortly after Dorothy's house lands on and kills the Wicked Witch of the East.
