It all depends on where you want to go and for how long. Avoid the monsoon, approx June to sept, and the heat, around march to June. Whats left is a good approximation but lndia has a lot of regional variations in its climate. Getting a flight to or from lndia can be expensive and difficult around Christmas or new year and during major lndian festivals like Diwali. Also be aware that rail travel can be booked out weeks in advance during festive periods. Avoid lndian school and public holidays if heading for a beach in Goa,particularly south goa around colva. The beach here can get really busy on weekends as well. In the far south its very hot all year so the monsoon is the determining factor, in the far north you can freeze between December and march, in rajasthan you can bake from february onwards etc etc. my advise is, if you intend to visit, do plenty of research, get a good guide book and leave yourself plenty of time for everything!
