Summer happens in South America when the Earth's 23.5 degree tilt gives the Southern Hemisphere more direct sunlight (and therefore warmth) than the northern hemisphere. So if South America is experiencing summer, North America is experiencing winter.
Winter. Seasons reverse when crossing the equator. Most of South America is south of the Equator.

summer. they would have the same seasons at the same time because they are both in the northern hemisphere. (this is true for most of asia, because the equator [which splits the Earth into north and south] passes through Indonesia, a southeastern Asian country, however it is generally warm by the equator year-round, so it would feel like summer in Indonesia too)
They are in different Hemispheres (Halves of the Earth) and each hemisphere points to the Sun each year. According to our seasons, Northern has summer and spring and Southern has winter and autum (fall).
