The 9/11 Memorial, officially known as the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, was completed and officially opened to the public on September 11, 2011, marking the tenth anniversary of the attacks. The memorial features two large reflecting pools set within the footprints of the original Twin Towers, surrounded by a grove of trees. The accompanying museum, which provides a deeper understanding of the events of September 11, 2001, opened in May 2014.
