First use: Jan1, 2001. Mandatory use: Jan 1, 2002.

The first Euros coins and notes were put in use in France from Jan 1, 2001. The French Franc remained a valid currency throughout the year 2001, but the Euro was the only legal currency from Jan 1, 2002 onwards.
