First, the concept of "news" is not an invention. At most (and this stretches meaning quite a bit), news is a creation...it is created.

Second, long before the inventions of the first newspaper, first Telegraph communication, the first telephones, the first radio, the first television, the first computer, and long before what we now think of as "news" (as a collection of stories), men called "criers" used to stand in front of castles to read a proclamation from the ruler. These became "town criers" in later decades, who went to the centermost place of a town to read out a proclamation.

But the practice of orally telling "news" to a group in a public arena or setting likely goes back to ancient civilizations.

The "news" (as a collection of stories) only came about after typesetting and publication of newspapers. The radio made delivering news much easier, but this came centuries later. Television news began almost immediately after TV was invented, and had paid sponsors for the news program where the announcer read a script while holding the product.
