Many of them already are, but even after the digital transmission changeover in Febuary 17, 2009, many can (and probably will) continue to use the old 525 line NTSC format recorded programs, but will have 'line doubled' the picture to be compatible with the digital transmission systems.
The GCF is 10.
360 and 540 have an LCM of 1080.
The LCM is: 185,256
The GCF of 1080 and 2952 is 72.
You can't covert from one standard to the other. If the HDTV is a 1080 type, it will display that signal when present and display a 720 when it is present. A 720 HDTV will never display a 1080 resolution picture, it will show the picture in 720 resolution.
Do you only get the benifit of a 1920 x 1080 resolution in hd format
1080 = 2^3*3^3*5
1080 pixels per image
23 x 33 x 5 = 1080
23 x 33 x 5 = 1080

It should change by itself if you are getting a 1080 program. UNLESS you are using a Satellite decoder box. I had to go to "settings" menu in the decorder box and uncheck 480i then check 480p, 720p and the 1080 box. After that, the Info button activated the screen to display the 1080 format.
There are now two resolutions that are classified as HD: 1280 x 720 1920 x 1080 The 720 format is a progressive scanned format, that is, the whole image is refreshed with every pass of the screen. The 1080 format is either interlaced or progressive scanning. Interlaced means that the image is refreshed in two passes of the screen. Pass 1 updates the odd numbered lines of the image and pass two updates the even numbered lines. Each pass is called a field. two fields make a complete frame. The two formats used for broadcast are 720p and 1080i. They are both full high definition formats. Broadcasters are not currently using 1080p as a signal format. Local sources such as Bluray, games consoles and computers can also output 1080p. Because the image is refreshed completely on every field, it requires twice the data of a 1080i signal. A third resolution of 1035 lines was used briefly but has now become a historical format.
1080 - without using a calculator !
For the best HD, the format should be 1080p. Anything lower will appear distorted and not crystal clear as 1080 displays
1080p is a high definition video format. 1080 refers to the number of lines that make up the complete image. The "p" stands for "progressive". A progressive format builds the complete image from line 1 to line 1080. 1080i has the same number of lines but is an interlaced format. The picture is built in two passes. The first pass has all the odd numbered lines - 1, 3, 5, 7 and so on to line1079. The next pass has the even numbered lines - 2, 4, 6 through to line 1080. Information is delivered twice as fast with 1080p compared to 1080i. Currently, broadcasters do not use 1080p which is found only on local sources such as Bluray, games consoles and computers.
