Katipo or Red Katipo Spider (latrodectus katipo) is a venomous spider native to New Zealand. Their habitat is sand dunes. Typically they have their webs in low growing plants and vegetation that can be found associated with sand dunes areas. They have also been noted for constructing their webs under drivewood, stones and other debris found on the shore. The life span is about 12 months (year). The Katipo Spider is an endangered species and recently has become threated with extinction.
In regards to "sand dunes" they migrate in the direction of the wind as sand particles being individually light can travel on the wind in forms of "sand storms" and therefore migrate overtime, create new dunes or reshape existing dune structures by either adding or withdrawing sand from the wind directions movement.
