∙ 13y agoThe story was originally written by Hans Christian Andersen in about l836 and is really a diatribe against Race-Mixing. In the original story= she dies- by dissolving into the ocean- long ahead of schedule. it is stated that Mermaids have a 300 year lifespan, and become foam on the water after this- which explains a lack of fossils or body parts- neat Science Fiction touch by Hans C. who was NOT a Verne type.
