One had been planned back in the 1990's called "Superman Lives" which was to be directed by Tim Burton and star Nicolas Cage- but the film never got made and the idea was eventually scrapped leading to other ideas that also never got made into films until Bryan Singer finally was hired to direct his story- "Superman Returns" (first Superman movie to be seen in theaters in almost 20 years). There was an animated film called "Superman/Doomsday" released in 2007 about the death and return of Superman.
