Theya re known by these names in Alexandre Dumas' novel, The Three Musketeers. It was not until the swashbuckling D'Artagnan, twenty years later, that the true names of them were revealed. It reveals that the Captain of the Musketeers, previously known as Athos, turned out to be the Count de la Fere, who was living on an estate near the French town of Blois. Porthos was also known as Seigneur de Vallon de Bracieux de Pierrefonds, a country gentleman. Aramis was also known as Abbe D'Herblay.
