The irony in Star Wars is that, in Anakin's quest to save Padme from death by obtaining the power to do so by turning to the dark side of the Force, he actually caused her death by taking away her will to live.

Star Wars: A New Hope is not all that ironic a movie, but it does have some minor ironic touches. It is ironic when R2D2 is ejected from the cantina on the grounds that "we don't like your kind around here" when the cantina is filled with bizarre aliens of every description. No matter how inclusive a society may be, they will still find someone to exclude (in this case, they discriminate against Artificial Intelligence).
