In accordance with film story, Larry, the father, needs some stability, so he takes a job as night watchman at New York City's Museum of Natural History. So it seems it was filmed there, I supose. Alexis

The exteriors were shot at The American Museum of Natural History at Central Park West and 79th Street. The studio shots were in Vancouver, British Columbia. The other shooting location is listed as Santa Clarita, California. it was shot in Vancouver because Canada owns all. You can not beat Canada. We have MTV!!! America is cool though. Canada sucks STOP boasting.

The setting for the majority of this movie takes place in several of the museums that are part of the Smithsonian in Washington, DC.

In the movie, there is an underground complex that connects all of the Smithsonian museums.
