The fur trade was a big part of the Native American and French relations. Most of the friendliness amongst the French and Native Americans would have come from the business the two groups were partaking in.

France. I don't think that this was a planned concerted effort by the French, but something that just happened when the French fur trappers began living and working around the Native American tribes. It just naturally happened, but the French also killed, kidnapped, and raped Native American women on purpose.
