originally only the premium version (80gb) was going to have backwards compatibility but that was changed just before launch so none of the ps3 models will run ps2 games not even the new ps3 slim
The 80 GB was not the first. The first PS3s which had 4 USB ports and 20 GB or 60 GB could play PS2 games or at least most titles. Then some other models with 60GB and 80 GB also with 4 USB ports came out and could still play many PS2 titles, but not as many as the first model. It was the 40 GB and August 2008 80 GB models that were the first to not play PS2 games and they both also have only 2 USB ports. Everything with 2 USB ports does not play PS2 games
PlayStation 2 discs have a special ring on the inside of their discs. This ring cannot be read or copied by a normal drive, and cannot be written to a blank disc.

no can't even read game discs and could not play them if they could
Yes, since the PlayStation 3 can play PlayStation 2 game discs.
Neither The PlayStation nor the PlayStation 2 will read copied discs without the use of a modchip. And there is no way to play PlayStation 2 games on an original PlayStation.
No, but you can play PlayStation games on a PlayStation 2.
No. PlayStation 2 Systems play DVD/CD based PlayStation 2/1 discs ONLY. PlayStation 3 systems use Blu-Ray discs for all PlayStation 3 Software (PS2 still works on certain models)
No you can not. You need a Playstation 2 to play PS2 game Discs not a DVD player or a PC with a DVD drive and no emulator and PS2 bios
no
yes
no
No as the PlayStation 3 Blu-Ray discs are too large to fit in the DVD slot on the PlayStation 2, although you can play most PlayStation 2 games on American PlayStation 3's and around 50% of PlayStation 2 games on European PlayStation 3's.
The first PlayStation usually had bad graphics, bad sound effects, and was very, very noisy while reading discs. The PlayStation 2 had a few games with bad graphics and effects and had moderate sound while reading certain discs. The PlayStation 2 will read and play original PlayStation games. Next, the PlayStation 3 has had no bad game graphics or effects and is EXTREMELY quiet when reading discs. You can also play PS1 and PS2 games in the PS3 with no problems. So, the PS3 is very expensive but it's worth the money compared to the PS2.
No.
