British Columbia borders Alaska to the south and the Yukon territory borders it to the east.
After the Compromise of 1850 the United States acquired both the New Mexico Territory and Utah Territory as parts of its territory. The Mexico and the US border was also agreed on the south.
Canada shares a land border with both the US and Denmark. The next nearest neighbour is France. Canada's border with the US is known as the longest undefended border in the world. Canada also shares a land border with Denmark, although it is much shorter than that shared with the US. The international boundary runs through Hans Island. Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, French territory near Newfoundland's Burin Peninsula, is Canada's next nearest neighbour.
