Nevil Shute's autobiography ends just after his dismissal as MD of Airspeed with a comment that his agents sold the film options for Ruined City in the USA, and this gave him a lump sum that made him well-off enough not to need to work again HOWEVER: It does not state that the option was ever taken up. In the USA, Ruined City was published under the title 'Kindling' - which had already been used 22 years earlier in 1915 as the title of a film by Cecil B.
