Seasons are caused by the tilt of the Earth, when the North Pole points more towards the Sun it's Summer in the Northern Hemisphere and Winter in the Southern Hemisphere, when the North Pole points away from the Sun it's Winter in the Northern Hemisphere and Summer in the Southern Hemisphere.

The reason the tilt changes the season is that it affects the total solar radiation on the surface due to this angle, when you're pointed away from the Sun the sunlight gets spread out more than when you're pointed towards the Sun.

Because the Earth is always tilted at an angle of about 23.5° there will be seasons everywhere. However places around the equator, where the change in solar irradiance change is at a minimum you'll not really experience much of a change in seasons from "Summer" to "Winter"
