The idea for Toy Story originated from an unproduced sequel to the short film, Tin Toy, titled A Tin Toy Christmas. It was planned to be a half-hour television special meant to convince Disney that Pixar was capable of producing a full-length feature film, but Disney opted for a feature film based on the Tin Toy characters to which Pixar turned into Toy Story.
