In the movie "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," Johnny Depp's character, Gilbert, wears a distinctive green, oversized jacket. The jacket reflects his laid-back, somewhat disheveled lifestyle and adds to the character's overall portrayal of someone dealing with the complexities of family life and personal struggles. Its vintage style contributes to the film's small-town setting in the 1990s.

In the film "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," the affair between Betty and Gilbert is a complicated aspect of the story. Betty, a local woman, represents a potential escape for Gilbert from his burdensome home life, particularly his responsibilities toward his mentally challenged brother, Arnie, and his morbidly obese mother. However, Gilbert ultimately realizes that he cannot pursue a relationship with her without addressing his familial obligations and personal struggles first. The affair serves to highlight Gilbert's internal conflict and desire for freedom while emphasizing the themes of love, responsibility, and self-discovery.
The film had a limited release on December 17, 1993 and wide release on March 4, 1994
Momma bulldozes her way into the police station, demanding Arnie. Although she is violating department procedure, the officers release Arnie to her to avoid more of a confrontation with her, as she is a formidable presence, and is drawing a crowd.
That's a tough one. No doubt Depp 'shines' in all his roles, he can't help it. But he is so careful about what parts he accepts, it's hard for him to 'rise above' a bad script, since he doesn't take on projects that are badly written. But some of his best rolls would have to be John Wilmont, 2nd Earl of Rochester in The Libertine, Gilbert Grape in What's Eating Gilbert Grape and honorable mention to the character Ed Wood in the film Ed Wood and Don Juan in Don Juan DeMarco.
