At the time of Joan of Arc (the years between Feb. 1429 and 1431), the King was Charles VII. He was married to Marie d'Anjou (link below). Their son Louis XI was the next king after his father.

St. Joan wanted to crown the Dauphin, as he was the proper king of France.
Joan of Arc did not want to become a leader. She only did it because the heavenly voices she was hearing told her that God insisted that she raise the siege of Orleans and conduct the dauphin, the French crown prince. to Rheims to be crowned king of France.
The most famous person that Joan of Arc helped was, of course, the dauphin, the crown prince of France. After Joan had raised the siege of Orleans and cleared the Loire River valley around Orleans in several decisive battles, like the one at Patay, she conducted the dauphin to the city of Rheims where he was crowned Charles VII, king of France.
Joan of Arc represented the existing kingdom of France (not including Burgundy). Her raising of the siege of Orleans by the English and then conducting the dauphin, the French crown prince, to the city of Rheims to be crowned king of France, dashed English hopes of having total control over all of France and resulted eventually in the creation of the modern French state.
Rheims, France, the Battle of Rheims ensued- Jeanne was a witness with the newly re-crowned King Charles VII , there is all sorts of historical art on this coronation scene at the Rheims Cathedral. this was l429- Once a Knight is enough!

Charles !
Joan of Arc had visions from Archangel Michael, St. Catherine of Alexandria, St. Margaret of Antioch, and occasionally other angels like the Archangel Gabriel, telling her to lift the Siege or Orleans, and bring the Dauphin to Rheims for coronation as France's new king.
Evidently, God felt that the dauphin, the crown prince of France, was the legitimate heir to the French throne. The French people as a whole wanted to be ruled by a French, not an English king and wanted to have their own country, France, and not be just another part of England, like Ireland and Scotland were for so many years. That is exactly what would have happened if Joan of Arc had not raised the siege of Orleans (which was the key to southern France), and conducted the dauphin to Rheims to be coronated King Charles VII of France. The English already had control of all of northern France, Paris and Normandy and Brittany, and only needed to take Orleans to have control of all of what is the modern state of France.
