This defensive line of forts, pillboxes, and underground control centers was called the Maginot Line, named for the French minister of defense. It was designed to repel frontal attacks as were common in World War I, but failed to anticipate the modern advances in mechanized and aerial warfare that would occur between World Wars. In any event, the Germans outflanked the Maginot Line by attacking through the weaker forts in Belgium, rendering the French fortifications nearly useless.
For the Micmac, the deportation was very traumatic. Many were already converted to Roman Catholic and intermarried with the French for several generations, many of the Acadian deportee's were close relatives, and it is difficult to imagine anything the British could have done which would have enraged the Micmac more. Mi'kmaq attacked the British army forts and the newly built settlements of the New England colonists. The forts that were intended to protect those settlements were attacked and burned. By 1756 the British in Nova Scotia were paying bounties for Micmac scalps, £30 for warrior scalps and £25 for women and children prisoners and the settlers were happily collecting as many as they could.

He pursued the Seminoles into Spanish-held Florida, captured forts, and eventually took control of the territory. Jackson's actions ultimately pressured Spain to cede Florida to the United States in the Adams-Onís Treaty of 1819.

In 1818, President Andrew Jackson led military forces into Florida to address the issue of Seminole raids into Georgia. His actions resulted in the seizure of Spanish forts and the capture of the influential Seminole leader, Osceola. This military incursion escalated tensions between the United States and Spain, ultimately contributing to the Adams-Onís Treaty of 1819, in which Spain ceded Florida to the U.S.
