Loki was a member of the Fairy Tail Guild, he was an incredible flirtist and had a phobia of Celestial Spirit Users. Later on he is revealed to be one of the 12 Zodiac Keys, Leo the Lion. He was (indirectly, by neglicence) responsible for his former master's, Karen Lilica's death so he was banished from the Spirit World. Later Lucy managed to convince the Spirit King to let him back in the spirit world and he became one of Lucy's spirits.
