On the Tuesday after she went missing, the three Johns, Peter, Stevens and Westlake together with a neighbor, set out to search the Moors. Joined by another neighbor, the party walked toward Lanlary Rock, a local landmark towards which Weeks and his companion were seen walking. The party had increased to twelve by Roughtor Ford, and split into two groups either side of the River Alan. They followed the stream to a place where the land was washed in water when the level rose in bad weather. Beside the stream was the body of Charlotte. It was a search party of 12 men that found her body.
