Robert Duane Ballard found the wreck of the Titanic in 1985.

The wreck was located on the ocean bottom on September 1, 1985. The discovery was made by the teams led by Dr. Robert Ballard and French oceanographer Jean-Louis Michel aboard the ships Knorr and Le Suroit.

The Titanic was located in the Atlantic about 370 miles (600 km) southeast of Newfoundland. It broke in two while sinking and the sections are lying separately on the bottom.
More than 70 years passed, then in 1985 a team led by Dr. Robert Ballard used an unmanned diving vessel called Argo, which had a video camera that sent pictures back to the research ship.
