There are no Dogs in either Verne"s novels or the movies adapted from them. the Sub Commander does have pet seals, in Captain Nemo and the underwater city, which is closer to a modern Atlantis, plot-wise than the Verne Voyages. I know the obvious joke- Underdog.

I don"t think he had a name. the seal appeared in the Hollywood Move derivative, Captain Nemo and the Underwater City, where the Captain had seals- I believe two, as pets they had been trained to clap- possibly aided by trick Photography at contestants in the ( All-Seas Day) a sort of aquatic Olympics. This was really about an underwater colony-base and aside from Nemo and the sub, has little connection with t he Verne novel, and is much closer to Atlantis tales. The base was known as Temple Mir. How did I know, but that is Russian word for Peace! an interesting film with socko special effects. seal was mere comic relief. EDIT: according to the 1954 movie of this book produced by Disney, the seal was called Esmay, which stands for Esmarelda.

The seal does not occur in the Verne novel, but is added ( possibly there were two) as comic relief in the film ( Captain Nemo and the Underwater city) the seal is a trained pet functioning something like a poodle. the Sea-Hound ( that is the German word for seal by the way, Seehund) claps his hands to applaud various acts in the ( All Seas Day) which is a sort of aquatic Olympics held in the Undersea base ( to deflect any escapist ideas among colonists, huh hun) the ;latter theme is played down- but the sea festival is exactly the time interval the abductees have chosen-To make off with one of the Subs! smart thinking.
