Telemachus was Odysseus and Penelope's son, and was the only son mentioned in The Odyssey. When Odysseus was trying to avoid the war by pretending he was crazy, King Agamemnon used Telemachus to prove otherwise. When Odysseus was plowing his fields, King Agamemnon placed Telemachus in front of Odysseus' plow. Odysseus avoided Telemachus, showing that he was not actually crazy.

Other children Odysseus reportedly fathered included:

  • Poliporthes with Penelope after he had returned from Troy.
  • Telegonus, Ardeas, Latinus with Circe.
  • Nausinous with Calypso
  • Polypoetes with Kallidike
