Masquerade is Alice in disguise. It is suggested that the actual Masquerade gave her the mask in which he would be able to communicate with her, although she wouldn't be aware of things happening around her.

It's Alice, although she doesn't know it. She becomes Masquerade because of the same evil atmosphere or sense thingy that turned her grandad into Hal G. She only finds out she is Masquerade when he unmasks himself, but then she feels so guilty she goes to live with her Aunt and Uncle and doesn't talk to Dan and the other Battle Brawlers. She is a girl, but when she turns into Masquerade, she is a completely different person, and turns into a boy.

So yeah, there's ur answer... =) but in new vestroia he returns as himself but Alice can still turn into him whit the mask =)
