Real core plot idea was the troublesome one-even if it failed in the play, character killed off in the war- of Race Mixing, and Racial tolerance, Rodgers and Hammerstein were known to hammer out (Message) plays that mignt turn off some audiences. For example (nazis aren"t bad its the guys in Berlin) Sound Of Music, for example harmless titles do not disarm somewhat distorted plots!
