Well it turns out that in the end... A is actually Alis twin sister who was stuck in a mental institue.. Alis twin sister cortney stuck Ali in the institute and Went around being Ali... Ali tried to get people to understand that she was the real Ali but no one believed her...

So Ali twin Cortney pretends to be Ali and the girl they were friends with in 7th grade was actually cortney... One day Ali escapes from the institute and kills Cortney for pretending to be her.. Then later on kills Ian and try's to kill Melissa and Alis 4 bffs at the time Spencer Aria Emily and Hannah.... She was the one who was A the while time and was taking revenge on Cortney for being her... And ruining her life and Taking revenge on Cortneys Friends and aqquantences and everyone part of her life bcuz it could have been Ali's life....

In the first four Books mona is A, she found alisons diary with everyones secrets and tormented emily, aria, sepencer and hannah with their secrets for revenge for picking on her when they were younger. in the next four books A is allison, becaus allison had a twin sister courtney, courtney was in a mental hospital and one day on one of her visits home pretended to be Allison, so Allison got sent to the hospital while courtney took over her life... the night courtney died allison had come home and killed her sister courtney. So after mona died in the fourth book the real allison became A.

Mona is at first. When Maya gave away Ali's old stuff Mona found her diary and got all the secrets. She pretends to be Hanna's friend and Ali when she threatens them. But then she is pushed off a cliff in a fight and Ali starts doing it because she's angry 'cuz they didn't figure Courtney out and Courtney, Ali's mentally ill twin, pretended to be Ali and put Ali in the nut house. But at a press conference about Ali "Courtney" Says she's Ali but Ali's parents say Courtney pretends to be Ali all the time and they ignore her. Ali, who is still alive, wants revenge on the girls for not helping her. In another book, she kidnaps Melissa and the girls and lock them in an abandoned house which she sets on fire. They make it out alive, find Ali, and they throw her in.
