In 1987, Arti Pradhan became the youngest female swimmer to swim the English Channel. I can't find any reference to her having swum across the Strait of Gibraltar.
In 1988 the youngest person to swim the English channel was Thomas Gregory. He was 11 years and 11 months old.

Lots of people can swim a mile at a very young age. I think I first swum 1 mile at the age of 6.
