Who owns R2-D2?

R2-D2 was originally owned by the Naboo royal cruiser as a maintenance droid. When Padme Amidala's term as queen ended, she kept the droid as an assistant when she was a senator, and the droid became close friends with C3-PO. She later gave him to Anakin Skywalker as a wedding present. When Anakin became Darth Vader, he was given (with C3-PO) to the captain of the Tantive IV, an Alderraniam diplomatic cruiser. When the ship was captured by the Empire over Tatooine, R2 and 3PO escaped in an escape pod to the planet's surface, where they eventually found themselves owned by Owen and Beru Lars, and their adopted son, Luke Skywalker. When Owen and Beru were murdered by The Empire, Luke became the rightful owner of R2 and 3PO. After The Empire was destroyed, Luke gave 3PO to his sister Leia, but kept R2 and remains his owner to this day.
